Inside this shelter, a crew of six linguists operates the AN/TSQ-138 Trailblazer, a mobile ground-based electronic warfare signals intelligence (EW/SIGINT) intercept system. According to a program page mirrored by the FAS Intelligence Resource Program, the system was fielded in Army Communications, Electronic Warfare, and Intelligence (CEWI) battalions in the late 1980s.

The Trailblazer is a tool for the tactical commander, a way to strip the veil of secrecy from the enemy's communications. It searches for, intercepts, records, and identifies radio signals across the HF, VHF, and UHF frequency ranges. To function, it requires a 30 kilowatt generator housed in a towed trailer support unit and a quick-erecting telescopic mast for its direction finding (DF) antenna group. It is an apparatus of precise, cold geography, relying entirely on line-of-sight (LOS) to translate invisible waves into actionable intelligence.

The technical specifications of the AN/TSQ-138 focus heavily on frequencies and power sources, but the human cost of the operation is found in the crew requirement: "6 x 98G (Linguists)." These individuals are the organic processors of the machine. They do not merely operate a dial; they translate the intent, the fear, and the orders of an opposing force in real-time.
