In the second and third, the viewer attempted to describe activity at the site in real-time and retroactively. In the final session, V372 targeted the specific activity of the ATA's external beam.

The Camouflage of the Figure of Merit

Because the government was spending money on what looked like magic, SRI wrapped the results in a layer of dense, academic mathematics. The report spends pages detailing "fuzzy set technology," using a "Figure of Merit (FM)" to quantify success through "normalized intersections" of target and response sets.

The primary target, the ATA facility's external electron beam, yielded a lower Figure of Merit of 0.56. The response was "scattered," filled with noise and incorrect data. But within that noise, V372 produced a cognitive surprise that froze the analysts.

Amidst a rambling description of what the report calls a "'Star Trek' phaser system initiated by controlled nuclear explosions," V372 stated: "What I keep wanting to do, is I keep wanting to put the whole thing into an apparatus that captures electrons and accelerates them."

This was not a guess. This was a near-perfect description of the Advanced Test Accelerator's function. SRI noted that V372 had no prior knowledge of the specific May 7 experiment. The record concludes that "hidden among a significant amount of incorrect data, lies a nearly complete description of the external electron beam and details of the ATA experiment."

The Proxy and the Void

The report is a shell. While it provides the methodology and the "fuzzy set" analysis, the most critical evidence is missing. The record explicitly states that Appendix A, containing the viewer's drawings, is "CLASSIFIED."

If this experiment had been a failure, the drawings would be public. If V372 had merely guessed that the lab had an accelerator—a safe bet for any facility at Lawrence Livermore—the results would have been released as a curiosity. Instead, the specific visual data remains blacked out.
