For decades, the records of how the US tracked the Soviet theft of Nazi aircraft tech remained buried; the names of the sources are still blacked out.
The Soviet Union jumped a decade of aviation development in three years, leaving Western planners blind to the speed of the Red Air Force's modernization. This leap did not happen through indigenous genius, but through a systematic strip-mining of German ruins, a process the United States watched in fragmented silence while the names of the men who reported it were scrubbed from the record.
